Computer Systems Specialist/ PC Repair & Network.

The MTLC’s Computer Technology Program is designed to prepare highly qualified technicians with a strong technical background and the skills necessary for an entry-level position in the computer industry.  

This is a classroom and apprentice program that exposes students to the basic hardware, software, and networking skills necessary to perform with success and professionalism in the computer industry.

 Upon graduation from this program our students find employment as PC Technicians, Network Administrators, Help Desk or System Engineers completing tasks such as building computer systems, installations, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair. They also work in sales and provide technical support for both the retail industry and computer vendor environments.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes classroom studies, lab and workbench practical skills. This program is composed of 20 weeks of study in:

·        Basic electronics.

·        Computer hardware.

·        Operating systems and application software.

·        Computer architecture.

·        Troubleshooting methodology and techniques.

·        Fundamentals of network design and implementation.

·        Local and wide area networks.

·        Wired and wireless networks.

·        Customer service.

Throughout the 20-week program the students are required to work as an apprentice under the supervision of a certified technician in a real world work environment to learn necessary practical skills.

Upon successful completion of this program students are expected to have the necessary preparation for A+ and Network+ certification.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this class. 

Receiving a Certificate

Students who successfully complete the 20-week program and complete their practical skills hours will be awarded a certificate from Mattapan Technology Learning Center.
